The Village's annual Street Maintenance Program encompasses a number of different projects throughout the Village each spring & summer. Every effort is made to keep affected residents informed as to when work will begin, how it is progressing, and any special needs such as off-street parking. Generally, streets will remain open to traffic during construction for the streets scheduled to be resurfaced or crack sealed. However, the streets scheduled to be reconstructed will have restricted traffic during certain phases of the work. We remind motorist to drive cautiously through the work zone areas and pay attention to signs, barricades and workers. We also ask that motorist refrain from parking on any street during construction activities. If you have any questions about this program contact the Department of Public Works at (630) 719-4753.
Road Maintenance Program 2010
The Village’s annual Street Maintenance Program for 2010 is scheduled to begin early April and take the better part of the construction season to complete. It includes several projects, with the first project being the rehabilitation of Janes Avenue from 75th Street to 83rd Street. Below is a short description of the proposed projects and their anticipated start dates.
Janes Avenue Rehabilitation: This project is funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) and is scheduled to begin early April and take three to four weeks to complete. It will include sidewalk repairs, curb and gutter repairs, drainage improvements, pavement patching, a new driving surface and pavement markings. The street will remain open to traffic; however, motorist should expect lane closures and traffic delays.
Mulligan Drive/Double Eagle Drive Resurfacing: This project is funded through the Motor Fuel Tax (MFT) Fund and is scheduled to begin late April to early May and take three to four weeks to complete. It includes sidewalk repairs, curb and gutter repairs, pavement patching, a new driving surface and pavement markings. It also includes pavement patching and pavement markings at other locations throughout the Village. All streets will remain open to traffic during construction; however, motorist should expect lane closures and minor traffic delays.
Street Crack Filling/Bike Path Seal Coating: This project is also funded through Motor Fuel Tax (MFT) Fund and is scheduled to begin mid May and take three to four weeks to complete. It includes crack filling 32 Village streets, approximately 9.5 miles, and seal coating 2.10 miles of bike paths. All streets will remain open to traffic; however, when a bike path is seal coated it will be closed to foot and bike traffic for 24-hours.
71st Street Reconstruction/Resurfacing (Woodridge Drive to Roberts Drive): This project is in the final design phase and will be funded through a combination of Emergency Repair Program (ERP) Grant and Motor Fuel Tax (MFT) dollars and is scheduled to begin early to mid July. A full description of the project will be forthcoming with the approval of the final plan.
Homeowners and business owners who are directly affected by these projects will receive construction notices prior to the start of the work on their street and will be updated as the project progresses. Road construction signs and barricades will be erected to warn/inform motorists and pedestrians.
