Earlier today, at an all school assembly, Mayor Gina Cunningham formally recognized Meadowview School 5th Grader, Ryan Gustis, for his recent acts of kindness towards the homeless. Over the past two years, Ryan has taken it upon himself to hand out backpacks filled with hats, gloves, scarves, and food to members of the homeless population in Chicago. To acknowledge Ryan for his efforts, Mayor Cunningham awarded him the Mayor’s Spirit Award, and issued a Proclamation naming Monday, January 29, 2018 as “Ryan Gustis Day” within the Village of Woodridge. Representatives from Giving DuPage, the West Suburban Community Pantry, McDonald’s, and National Title Solutions, Inc. were also on hand to recognize Ryan for his efforts, and to donate items to help him with his cause.

“Ryan’s a pretty amazing young boy. By acknowledging his act of kindness towards the less fortunate, I hope to encourage all of our Woodridge citizens to consider how they, too, can follow in Ryan’s footsteps and ‘Do Good’ within our community through helping others”, stated Mayor Cunningham. “Let’s have this become contagious!”
