Grand Champion Baker Honors Veterans, Woos Crowd with Chocolate Chip Cookies

On Thursday, November 2nd, Mayor Cunningham and the Village Board recognized Carol Boak, this year’s DuPage County Fair’s Grand Champion Baker and longtime Woodridge resident. Over the past ten years, Ms. Boak has won over 150 ribbons and received the Grand Champion Ribbon three times in 2011, 2014 and 2017.

Ms. Boak’s giving spirit is evident within the community. She has donated her baked goods for countless good causes, which included baking her famous chocolate chip cookies for the Veteran’s Reception held before the Village Board Meeting Thursday night. Ms. Boak enters cookies, cakes, breads, fudge, muffins and specialty items into competitions every year and credits her husband and family for their support. Incredibly - perhaps even tragically - she’s unable to taste anything she bakes due to food allergies.

Ms. Boak started baking for the DuPage County Fair in 2007 after her grandson told her that she baked the best chocolate chip cookies. Building on that endorsement, she entered three different kinds of cookies in that year’s fair completion and won ribbons for all three entries. From there, she says she was hooked.
