2nd Annual Business Walk Helps Support Local Businesses

Mayor Cunningham and Village staff recently embarked upon the second annual Woodridge Business Walk at the Woodgrove Festival Shopping Center, located at the southwest corner of 75th Street and Lemont Road. This economic development effort seeks to connect with local businesses, gather their experience in conducting business in Woodridge, and learning how the Village can work to help support their needs.
The Mayor and staff met with 28 retailers and service providers. The walk is one of several ongoing efforts by the Village to support local businesses, which includes implementing action steps that were identified in the Shop Woodridge Action Plan – an economic development plan adopted by the Village Board earlier this year. Building on the Village’s existing Business Retention Program, the initiative continues the Village’s long standing efforts to support local businesses.

“The growth and success of local businesses is something that the Village continues to underscore, particularly in today’s changing retail environment,” said Mayor Cunningham. She added “I was so pleased to meet with local businesses and learn more about how we can help them succeed.”

Beyond meeting with local businesses the Village is also promoting the small business grant program to attract new businesses to the Village. The Small Business Grant Program, another recommendation from the Shop Woodridge Action Plan, intends to attract new Woodridge businesses seeking to lease space in Woodridge shopping centers. The program also offers assistance to current businesses looking to expand. The objective of the program is to add new businesses to increase shopping center occupancies and local employment opportunities.
